Salt Water Swimming Pools
What exactly is a salt water swimming pool?
Perhaps you've heard someone talking about converting their backyard swimming pool into a salt water pool? Why would they do that? What are the benefits?
Converting a swimming pool to a salt water pool is a fairly easy process and is being done more and more across the country. A salt water pool uses a device called a chlorine generator that breaks down the salt molecules into liquid chlorine. Once the chlorine has done it's job and sanitized the water, it reverts back to salt. Chemically this is quite confusing and you can find more information about that on the internet.
The amount of salt in your pool is nowhere near the salt levels in ocean water. The amount of salt in ocean water is around 31,000 parts per million. Your backyard pool will only have 3,000 to 3,500 parts per million. You can barely taste the salt. The type of salt you will add is readily purchased at your local grocery store for water softener systems.
You simply dissolve the required amout of salt into your pool, plumb in the salt water generator and you're all set. No more red eye, itchy skin, green hair, faded swimsuits or chlorine odor and your pool water is silky smooth!
More information about how a salt water pool works is on the Chlorine Generator page.
